Conard Lacrosse Notches Big Wins in States

The girls and boys lacrosse teams from West Hartford’s Conard High School won their first playoff games in the Class L state tournament by a wide margin.

The no. 3 seeded Conard girls lacrosse team hosted CCC rival 14th-seeded Simsbury Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Class L state tournament and cruised to the next round with a 15-2 victory.
Conard’s scoring was led by Maya Feigenbaum who had five goals. Kiley Phelan (4 goals), Marisa Haverty (3 goals), Kate Shaffer (2 goals), and Gwen Geisler (1 goal, 1 assist) were also major contributors on offense. Ally Tousignant and Maggie Venora also had assists.
Conard goalie Lauren Scheid had eight saves in the game, and Lauren Michaels also had a save.
The Chieftains will keep the home field advantage and host no. 6 seed Fairfield Warde on Thursday, June 2, at 5 p.m. in a quarterfinal match.
The no. 12 seeded Conard boys lacrosse team also won big in its first tournament game, with a 17-5 victory at home over no. 21 seed West Haven Saturday in the qualifying round.
Jack O’Connor was the top scorer with four goals. Sam Lefante (2), Andrew Hollerbach (2), Luke Serdechny (2), Henry Kneidel, John Gibbons, Jordan Dorfman, Grant O’Connor, Jack Gerundo, and Paul Wilson also scored.
Conard goalies Tyler Carson, Ramsay Henderson, and Matt Sorgio combined for four saves.
The Chieftains will travel to no. 5 seed Ridgefield for a first round game on Wednesday, June 1, at 3 p.m.
