Conard Runner Breaks School Record at Indoor Meet

Indoor Track and Field athletes from West Hartford’s Conard High School had great success at two major meets last weekend.

Conard junior Libby McMahon participated in two major indoor meets in one weekend, and came away with several medals and a new school record.
At the SCC-Coaches Invitational, held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, on Saturday, Jan. 21, McMahon won the girls 600 meter run with a late sprint and a time of 1:40.74, setting a new Conard record. This was only her third time ever running the 600. She beat Leah Rivers of Wilbur Cross, who finished second in 1:41.21.
Also at the SCC-Coaches Invitational, Conard senior Gwen Geisler took third place in the girls 1600 meter run, with a time of 5:18.62. Winner Bridgid Selfors of Mercy High School finished in 5:08.23, and Brigit Humphreys of New Milford was third in 5:18.05.
Boys competitions was highlighted by Conard senior Will Allen, who took 12th place in the boys 1600 meter with a season PR of 4:48.02.
The new school record that McMahon set on Saturday came on the heels of a medal-worthy performance in New Haven just one day earlier. On the first day of the the 35th Yale Interscholastic Track Classic on Friday, Jan. 21, McMahon took second place in the girls 300 meter dash, with a time of 41.57. The first place finisher was Cassidy Palmer, from Bloomfield High School, who won with a time of 40.76 seconds.
