Board of Education Chair Dr. Mark Overmyer-Velazquez announced Tuesday night that Trinity Professor Dr. Cheryl Greenberg has been appointed as a new Democrat on the Board of Education, replacing Jillian Gilchrest who resigned in February when she was named senior policy analyst at the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.

In his announcement to the Board of Education, Overmyer-Velazquez said that Greenberg is a longtime West Hartford resident who is the parent of two children who attended West Hartford Public Schools.

According to her biography on Trinity’s website, Greenberg, a Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of History, has taught at Trinity for the majority of her career. Greenberg teaches “African American history and the history of race in the U.S., as well as courses on many social and cultural history topics including crime, protest movements, Star Trek, and American society during and after the Cold War,” according to her biography.

Greenberg’s appointment is effective May 5, 2015 through November 17, 2015.
