The community conversation, presented by Solomon Schechter Day School, West Hartford Public Schools, and Speak Up, will be held Monday and will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford, in partnership with West Hartford Public Schools, and Speak Up will co-sponsor the third annual community conversation.

This year, an evening of storytelling will serve as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity within our community and promote an understanding of how our differences can add to the vibrancy of the human race.

This free event is open to the public and will offer inspiring and thought-provoking narratives intended to stimulate conversations around inclusion, acceptance and social justice advocacy.

The event will be held at Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford, 26 Buena Vista Rd., West Hartford, on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

West Hartford Superintendent of Schools Tom Moore and Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford Head of School Andrea Kasper will provide the opening remarks. Elysha Dicks, co-founder and executive director of Speak Up, will serve as emcee.

Storytellers for the event will be:

• Matthew Dicks, co-founder and creative director of Speak Up
• Jayce Hamilton, ninth grade Hall High School student and Open Choice participant
• Katheryn Maldonado, UConn aluma and current graduate student
• Maxx Smith-Rapaport, eighth grade Solomon Schechter student
• Luisa Soboleski, principal, American School for the Deaf
• Chion Wolf, WNPR producer and announcer; producer and host of the MOuTH
