Submitted by the Town of West Hartford

Beginning Sunday, July 24, the Town of West Hartford plans to repave North Main Street from the southerly Loomis Drive intersection to Farmington Avenue and South Main Street from Farmington Avenue to Ellsworth Drive/Town Hall driveway. This work will be performed at night during the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“The Engineering Division is repaving this section of North and South Main Street due to the poor pavement conditions. Each year, we mix geographic sections, as well as local, collector, and arterial roadways, to balance repaving throughout the Town,” said Duane J. Martin, Town Engineer. North/South Main Street carries over 16,000 vehicles daily and serves as a major arterial roadway through the center of Town.

The pavement milling will start on Sunday, July 24 and may take up to four nights to complete. Milling involves the removal of the top course of pavement in preparation of paving. The paving work will start on Sunday, July 31 and may take up to five nights to complete, weather dependent.

Detours and on-street parking restrictions will be put in place starting around 7:00 p.m. After 6:00 a.m., all detours and parking restrictions will be removed prior to the morning rush hour. Diagonal parking in front of metered spaces will be permitted on the milled roadway during daytime hours.

While milling and paving is in progress, parking will not be permitted on-street on North/South Main Street. In addition, the exit to the Town Center municipal parking lot onto South Main Street will be closed. Vehicles will enter the lot via LaSalle Road and exit onto Farmington Avenue (near the Toy Chest). The Farmington Avenue entrance will be converted to an exit during this two week period, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Police will provide traffic control to assist motorists.

Farmington Avenue will remain open during this construction project.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this project causes and we appreciate your patience.
