The West Hartford Fire Department was able to quickly knock down and contain a blaze that sparked in a bedroom of a single-family home on Elmhurst Circle early Monday morning, but the family has been displaced temporarily due to fire and smoke damage.
The fire was reported at 5:08 a.m. Monday, and upon arrival crews observed heavy smoke coming from the front of the one-story home.
”Firefighters confirmed an active fire in a bedroom and initiated a coordinated interior attack while performing a primary search of the residence,” Deputy Chief Neal Sinatro said in an email.
Crews confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival. While one occupant had sustained a minor injury to an extremity that was treated at the scene by emergency personnel, the individual declined transport to a hospital for further treatment, Sinatro said. No firefighters were injured.
Officials said the fire was knocked down “within minutes” and was officially declared under control at 5:31 a.m., according to Sinatro.
The blaze was contained to the bedroom of origin, but due to smoke damage the home was deemed uninhabitable by officials.
The American Red Cross is currently assisting the three occupants of the home who have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
