Firefighters were dispatched to Linbrook Road early Sunday afternoon for a blaze that broke out on the roof area of a single-family home where solar panels have been mounted.
Deputy Chief Russell Duffy said the fire was small, with smoke visible upon arrive, but there was some extension into several bay of the attic area.
The blaze was reported at 12:48 p.m., and Car 4 and Engine 2 were the first units at the scene, arriving at 12:51 p.m., Duffy said. Crews “deployed a 1¾-inch hand line into the residence and advanced to the finished attic. Fire crews encountered a smoke condition, and upon opening the ceiling, located and extinguished the active fire,” officials said.
The fire was knocked down by 12:59 p.m., and classified as under control by 1:05 p.m.
Two residents had already safely evacuated without injury, and there were no injuries to firefighters, according to Duffy.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office. The solar panels had been on the roof for approximately 10 years, Duffy said.
Damage was contained to the roof and an area of the attic, but the occupants will be temporarily displaced due to a disruption to the electrical system.
Along with firefighters and the fire marshal, a representative of the Building Department, and AMR responded to the scene.
