Hall Coach Earns Hall of Fame Honors

Kathy Walling is one of 10 individuals selected for induction in 2014.

Kathy Walling, who coached lacrosse for 17 years and field hockey for 13 years at West Hartford’s Hall High School, will be inducted this year into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

According to a press release from the Hall of Fame, Walling’s career includes 451 total coaching victories and six league titles in three sports. She was also named Coach of the Year in field hockey by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association in 2002.

Walling was also inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007, according to Max Preps.

The 2014 inductees include five other coaches: Debbie Petruzzello of Woodrow Wilson/Middletown High School, Brian Crudden of Windham High School, Christy Hayes of St. Joseph High School (Trumbull) and Wilton High School, William Mongovan of Greenwich High School and St. Mary’s High School (Greenwich), and Marce Petroccio of Staples High School. Athletic directors Joseph Canzanella (New Haven) and Paul Mengold (Amity High School), former Naugutuck Valley standout athlete Ed Poscavage, and Hartford Courant sports reporter Tom Yantz will also be inducted.

The 38th annual Connecticut High School Coaches Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Aqua Turf in Southington.
