Students from William H. Hall High School’s Digital Media and Video Production course produced and submitted three videos in a candle safety public service announcement contest cosponsored by the West Hartford Fire Department and West Hartford Community Television.
Their submissions garnered two out of the three top prizes: Judge’s Choice High School level and People’s Choice, which was based on public voting at local firehouses during Fire Prevention Week.
Seniors Alex Liu, Ian Kunsey, Daniel Kunnel, and Francis Byrne took home the Judge’s Choice award for their video “How to Handle of Candle,” while senior Ashley McDonald, junior Madison Bechard, and sophomore Daniel Padberg-Bartoo grabbed the People’s Choice award for their video “Rewind.”
The 30-second PSAs will air on West Hartford Community Television for the next few months. The students will be recognized for their achievement at the West Hartford Fire Department annual Award Ceremony.
West Hartford Firefighter Marsha Adell commented that the competition was considerable. “I was really, really impressed,” Adell said. “It was so great to work with the kids. They did an amazing job.”
