The Hartford Rib Off, Hartford’s largest charity BBQ event of the year, is revamping to a new format for 2020, to raise funds for the community while also supporting the hard-hit hospitality industry.

COVID-19 has put a hold on large-scale public gatherings in 2020, leaving many non-profit events, like the Hartford Rib Off, without a means to raise funds. To adhere to safety protocols, this year’s Hartford Rib Off will take on a new format, where for one week, BBQ enthusiasts can enjoy BBQ inspired dishes and drinks at their favorite Hartford area restaurants, for one full week.

From Monday, Oct. 19 to Sunday, Oct. 25, select Connecticut chefs, bartenders, BBQ Pit Masters, and restaurateurs from the greater Hartford area will serve up dishes and drinks inspired by anything BBQ, with 50% of the proceeds from those dishes or drinks going to Hartford Rib Off Inc.

The 2020 Hartford Rib Off beneficiaries include The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Journey Home, and The Hartford Rib Off Scholarship Fund.

The 2020 Hartford Rib Off “Week of BBQ” allows for people to contribute to charity in a small way, by simply ordering a dish or a drink at one of their favorite participating restaurants. The event also supports our restaurant industry friends in these very difficult times.

For a complete list of current participating restaurants, visit the Hartford Rib Off online.

Local restaurant delivery companies, Waiter Wheels and Dine-In Connecticut have also pledged to donate $2.50 from each order with a BBQ inspired dish included, when placed through their websites.

The Hartford Rib Off prides itself on promoting the City of Hartford and raising funds for charitable organizations that directly give back to underserved communities. Over the last 10 years, the Hartford Rib Off has donated more than $180,000 to seven local charitable organizations.

In 2019, the Hartford Rib Off gave $30,000 to their beneficiaries, Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids and MARC Community Resources, along with giving one $2,500 scholarship via the Hartford Rib Off Scholarship Fund. So far in 2020, The Hartford Rib Off Scholarship Fund has distributed two $2,500 scholarships to two deserving Hartford students.

The Hartford Rib Off, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to raising funds and supporting local charitable organizations through safe and enjoyable BBQ-themed events. 100% of proceeds from the Hartford Rib Off are donated to charity. 2020 beneficiaries include:  The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Journey Home, and The Hartford Rib Off Scholarship Fund.
