Dear Editor,

My name is Elon Crawford, I just want to take a moment to commend you for the great article on distracted driving and helping to make people more aware of the dangers.

I can totally understand the frustration police must feel, as I see this all the time, everything from fighting with a burger to texting which is my biggest pet peeve and worry. Its time to step up and make a difference.

As a father of two, I have a great fear or should I say had a great fear of getting a call from emergency services someday with news of a horrific accident involving one of my children or loved ones.

The seriousness of drinking and driving has been driven into their heads and I believe they respect the possible outcome of drinking and driving and make a conscious decision to not do it.

However texting and driving seems to be their nemesis, they were texting long before they were able to drive and they are having a hard time breaking the habit, it is almost like they are afraid they are going to miss some critical info, … like Mary broke up with John or did you hear the new song by ????? …

I watch daily, people swerving along the road as they use their phones, my children included. After catching my kids numerous times on their phones while driving and then realizing that their habit was probably formed as a result of watching me do the same over the years. At that point I decided to take matters into my own hands, I tried various apps that stop texting etc, turning the phone off … damn I even locked it in the trunk but none of those options worked for me.

I recently purchased a device from a company called Keeping Roads Safe. This little box has eliminated the sleepless nights, or at least made the issue of texting and driving go away. This is the best thing since peanut butter and jam in my mind. If anyone has the same worries I did, then I suggest checking it out.

At any rate, I just wanted to share my find and maybe it will help others as well, thanks again for helping to make not just teens but all on the road, aware of the very real dangers.

Thanks,

Elon Crawford
