Dear Editor:

I first got to know Beth Kerrigan in 2004 when she and her wife, Jody, became plaintiffs in the marriage equality lawsuit that bears their names: Kerrigan & Mock v. CT Department of Public Health. I was the Executive Director of Love Makes a Family, Connecticut’s marriage equality organization, and therefore had a lot of opportunity to work closely with Beth. From the first time we talked, I was impressed with her passion, her work ethic, her commitment to stand up for what she believed in, and the obvious love she had for Jody and their two sons.
Connecticut became the second state to allow same-sex couples to legally marry nine years ago this month. And Beth Kerrigan and Jody Mock are an important part of that history. Since that time, I have seen the same passion and work ethic and commitment to stand up for what’s right—even if it’s not what’s popular—from Beth. And I have seen how much she cares about the town of West Hartford and how hard she has worked over the past two years as a Town Council member.
I live next door in Avon and won’t be able to vote for Beth on November 7th. But I care about having strong leaders in our region and strongly encourage West Hartford residents to support her on Election Day.
Sincerely,
Anne Stanback
Avon, CT
