To the Editor:

Although I have heard lots of complaints about the projected mil rate increase to our property taxes, very few citizens in West Hartford read the budget proposal for the Town or attend public comment meetings. This year, workshops were added to sessions that explained the published Budget in Brief.

I had emailed our Town Manager, Rick Ledwith, midweek asking which session I should attend. I stated that I had read the entire Town Budget (but not the School Budget) and had five pages of comments and questions.

He generously offered me ample time this past Friday at 3:30 p.m. in his office to have a helpful dialogue which was very informative. I gave him a copy of my indexed issues.

Despite the large budget and large population in this town, it is wonderful to still be able to have face-to-face encounters with our officials!

Thank you, Rick.

    Beth Rocco,
thank you for taking the time to read the budget. So true that most of us do not.
