To the We-Ha News:
I am proud to endorse Councilman Alberto “Al” Cortes for reelection to the Town Council for the Town of West Hartford. As a fellow Republican who shares the vision of the West Hartford Republican Town Committee’s “Four Pillar Platform” – Governance & Fiscal Responsibility; Education & Accountability; Development, Zoning & Housing; and Public Safety & Community – I believe Councilman Cortes embodies these pillars with integrity and results.
On governance and fiscal responsibility, Councilman Cortes consistently advocates for transparency and prudent spending, serving our town with a clear view toward preserving quality services while controlling costs. On education and accountability, he has stood for strong public schools and meaningful oversight of our town’s resources. Under development, zoning, and housing, he has carefully weighed large-scale proposals – while supporting responsible growth not hesitating to raise important questions, for example on the former UConn campus redevelopment where he challenged the Council to ensure true value and sustainability. On public safety and community, Councilman Cortes publicly applauded the drop in serious crimes, including a 16% fall in vehicle thefts in 2024, while emphasizing his continued partnership with our police department and residents to keep neighborhoods safe.
Councilman Cortes brings a unique and inclusive perspective to our Town Council – he was born and raised in the City of Hartford, moved to West Hartford in 1998, and is the first Latino member of the Council, reflecting the diversity of our community. His record shows that he not only listens to residents across the town but also acts with conviction.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the choice is clear: West Hartford needs experienced, principled leadership that aligns with conservative values and practical solutions. I urge all voters – regardless of party – to support Councilman Cortes for Town Council, who works for everyone.
Sincerely,
Steven Adler
West Hartford
Former Councilman, Town of West Hartford
