In the realm of local politics, the value of dedicated public servants who understand the needs of their community cannot be overstated. West Hartford has been fortunate to have Deb Polun, a capable and committed leader who has demonstrated her passion and effectiveness over the years. Serving on the West Hartford Town Council for almost a year, following a five-year tenure on the West Hartford Board of Education, Polun has proven herself to be a dedicated and exemplary public official.

A 30-year resident of West Hartford and a mother of two children who attended West Hartford Public Schools, Deb Polun’s deep roots in the community have contributed to her intimate understanding of the town’s needs and aspirations. Her achievements include promoting affordable housing initiatives and working to enhance the quality of life for all residents. Furthermore, Polun’s leadership has been pivotal in efforts to tackle multifaceted challenges effectively.

One of the most compelling reasons to support Deb Polun is her experience in local governance. Prior to her current role on the West Hartford Town Council, Polun devoted five years to the West Hartford Board of Education, during which she served as the BOE chairperson from 2019-November 2021, during the height of the COVID pandemic. She worked closely with school leadership to keep schools safe and respond to the needs of students, teachers and families. She worked collaboratively across the aisle to utilize COVID relief funds to lift “pay to play” so all students had the opportunity to play on a sports team upon returning to school no matter their situation. Deb worked tirelessly as chairperson to ensure students’ physical and mental well being.

Deb Polun’s time on the Town Council has been marked by a commitment to serving the town’s residents. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that West Hartford remains a vibrant and inclusive community. Her approach is rooted in pragmatism and collaboration, ensuring that the best interests of the town take precedence. Polun played a pivotal role in ensuring a strong budget for this past year. She also implemented a “fine-free” policy for West Hartford libraries, following the recommendations of the American Library Association. This policy created a more equitable and welcoming environment for all residents.

One of the most commendable qualities of Deb Polun is her unwavering passion for the West Hartford community. Her commitment to public service is evident in her tireless advocacy for the town’s well-being. This devotion extends beyond the boundaries of her role; it reflects a genuine love for the place she calls home and the people who reside there. Polun’s passion is infectious and serves as a source of inspiration for others to get involved and make positive contributions to their community.
