To the Editor:

On behalf of West Hartford Social Services, we want to thank and recognize the wonderful caring and generosity of this community.

In late October, Mayor Cantor asked for donations to our town food pantry anticipating an increase in need due to a disruption in SNAP benefits, and what a response we got! You came in droves to drop off food, diapers, personal care items, and financial contributions to The Town That Cares fund. We received donations from children, schools, neighborhood groups, religious and fraternal organizations, businesses large and small, and individuals from every corner of this town.

We also could not be more grateful to the many Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members, our Emergency Management colleagues, and loyal volunteers who gave so many hours of their time sorting, date-checking, stocking and distributing food to those who needed it during this very busy last few months.

We want to acknowledge and thank our community and let you know that your support makes a difference in the lives of others and it does not go unrecognized. West Hartford truly is the town that cares!

In gratitude,

Helen, Liz, and Suzanne, and the West Hartford Social Services Department
Helen Rubino-Turco, Director, Leisure Services & Social Services
Liz Buczynski, Assistant Director, Social Services
Suzanne Oslander, Community Partnerships Manager
