To the Editor,
Last year, the Town Council voted to triple the car tax in West Hartford. Car taxes are regressive and hurt the working class and the poor the hardest. Sure, many West Hartford residents don’t mind paying their fair share. However, the median household income in town is around $60,000 and these households are getting squeezed too tight. A jump from $350 to over $1,000 for a typical car tax means the kids are going to get fewer gifts at the holidays or they won’t get that much-needed winter coat for the cold winter.
When will West Hartford voters say, “enough is enough” and vote in some new leadership? If you saw your car tax bill and nearly fell down in shock, express your frustration at the polls on Nov. 5. Vote for new leaders who won’t tax working families into poverty.
