To the Editor:

In response to John Lyon’s opinion piece “All Politics Is Local,” my thoughts are as follows:

And I would hope with this announcement and the failed assassination attempt of President Trump on July 13 in Butler, PA – that people who do support the 45th President and current nominee Donald Trump are treated with dignity and respect in this town. There is no need for snickering, no need to refuse to do business with Trump supporters, no need to banish us from committees and associations. We have every right to be here, live here, and co-exist here.

West Hartford Democrats may certainly prefer a certain candidate. They may have strong disagreements with Trump or Republican ideas. However our candidate and our philosophy of governance is every bit as valid as yours and whomever the Democrats nominate to fill Biden’s position at the top of the ticket.

We are not terrorists, threats to democracy,  insurrectionists, racists, xenophobes, or guilty of other forms of falsely accused phobia. It is our town, too. May the best candidate win.
