To the Editor:
I’ve lived in West Hartford for decades, and I’ve never seen our town government so disconnected from the people it serves. Taxes keep rising, spending is out of control, and too often decisions are made behind closed doors. It’s time for accountability – and that’s why I’m voting Row B for the Republican candidates for Town Council and I’m also voting for Miriam Bleich for Board of Education.
Al Cortes, Dr. Gayle Harris, Kyle Zelazny, John Lyons, Dr. Sijie “Jason” Wang, and Ben Lewis are offering real solutions to real problems. They’re focused on restoring trust and fiscal sanity – by requiring every department to justify every dollar through Zero-Based Budgeting and by opening up Town Hall through Quarterly Budget Transparency Workshops that let residents see exactly where their money goes.
Their platform also puts public safety and infrastructure first. They want to repair our roads, improve sidewalks, and hold developers accountable for the impact of new projects. And I appreciate their commitment to protecting Title IX so girls and women can continue to compete on a level playing field, and to promoting merit-based hiring instead of politically motivated DEI policies.
We can’t afford another two years of rubber-stamped budgets and ideological experiments. Let’s bring back balance, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. On Nov. 4, vote Row B for a stronger, fairer West Hartford.
Carl Donatelli
