A Hartford man who has already served jail time and is listed on the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry was arrested Saturday for an incident involving sexual assault of a minor.
Captain Kevin McCarthy said Sunday that police were contacted about a man who inappropriately touched a 9-year-old girl just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Hillcrest Avenue in West Hartford. According to police, the victim told her parent that the man “grabbed her by the arms, put her on his lap, and kissed her neck multiple times.”
Police said their investigation led them to another residence down the street where the suspect, Kevin Duverger, 39, of Hartford, was babysitting for two other children, males ages six and seven.
Duverger admitted to grabbing the juvenile, police said.
Police said that based on statements made at the scene, they are also investigating a possible incident involving one of the children for whom Duverger was babysitting.
Duverger was arrested on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, and second-degree unlawful restraint and is being held on $200,000 bond.
According to court records, Duverger was convicted in July 2010 for a similar incident involving a 9-year-old girl, and sentenced to more than five years in jail for felony risk of injury to a minor. Following his release was placed on probation for five years. He was sentenced to another two years for violation of probation and is listed on the sex offender registry with an address on Broadview Terrace in Hartford.
