We-Ha.com is offering our readers the opportunity to “Meet the Candidate” – designed to help them get to know the candidates running for office in the Nov. 3, 2015 municipal election.

Identical questionnaires have been sent to all major party candidates, and each profile received has been submitted directly to We-Ha.com by the candidate or the candidate’s campaign management. The responses have not been edited but have been formatted to match our publication style. Questions left blank have been deleted.

As profiles are received, they will be published on We-Ha.com under the “Government” tab. We-Ha.com is not making endorsements of any political candidates but we are publishing this information in order to assist West Hartford voters in being informed and prepared when they go to the polls on Nov. 3.

If you are a candidate and wish to submit a profile, please return it by email to Ronni Newton at [email protected] ASAP.

Name: Bill McCarthy

Age: 55

Party, position seeking:  Republican, Town Council

Family information:  Married with 2 grown kids

Other occupation, if applicable:  Insurance Broker

Political experience: None

Other relevant experience: I have started and owned numerous businesses over the last 30 years. I believe my business and employee benefits background can be helpful on the Town Council.

Why are you running for office? As a lifelong resident I have always had an interest in town politics, finances and quality of life issues and feel strongly that it is always good policy to hear both sides of the aisle. I have been one to sit on the sidelines and criticize from afar when I don’t necessarily agree with what is going on in our town. Because of this I think it is about time that I stop criticizing and become part of the team to make sure West Hartford stays as one of the best places to live in Connecticut.

What issue(s) are your primary area of focus?  High Property taxes, public safety and unfunded pension obligations.

What do you feel is the biggest issue facing West Hartford today? High Property taxes.

What do you feel differentiates you from other candidates also running for this position? I believe my employee benefits background can help in trying to stabilize the cost the Town pays towards healthcare.
