A woman was driving through the parking lot at Westfarms Tuesday afternoon when a light pole broke off at its base and hit the rear portion of her SUV, where her two children were seated.
West Hartford Police said that Mirela Ntalipi, who was driving the vehicle, had secured one of her children in an infant seat in the rear passenger side seat. Her other child, also a juvenile, was seated in the rear of the driver’s side of the vehicle.
It was windy and raining at the time of the incident.
Police said that the pole came to rest in a deep dent across the rear roof and roof rack of the vehicle, impacting both side doors. One of the children complained of nausea as well as pain from where the roof of the vehicle hit his head, police said.
Police said that Ntalipi complained of chest pain and said that the injured parties were treated at the scene and all three were transported to Hartford Hospital by AMR Ambulance for further evaluation.
The West Hartford Fire Department and Westfarms Security also responded to the incident, police said. A contractor was secured to remove the pole from the vehicle.
