Peter Stevens, Chairman of The New Children’s Museum in West Hartford, has announced the departure of The New Children’s Museum’s President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Griesmer.

Griesmer joined The New Children’s Museum in the role of CEO in 2011 after a long career as COO of the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium. He will be transitioning to Virginia where he will take the role of CEO at the Virginia Air and Space Center.

As CEO of the museum, Griesmer was influential in redefining the role the museum played in the community, in providing a learning laboratory for the region’s children. His expertise in operations helped the organization to realize a gain in revenue in 2013 and his experience in museum development brought together a team of national experts in creating a powerful vision for the museums future.

“Bob has helped us to right-size in difficult economic times while also articulating a most dynamic future for us,” stated Peter Stevens, Board Chairman.

“The Board will move aggressively to continue our strategic position as a center for lifelong learning with a foundation set upon STEAM – the dynamic integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS and Mathematics – we are ‘Full Steam Ahead!’”

“We wish Bob the best with his new endeavor at the Virginia Air and Space Center. We move forward from our position of strength with both our current operations and the dynamic programs soon to be unveiled,” said Stevens.
