The West Hartford Mayor’s Youth Council is working in collaboration with HeatSmart to involve youth in a new initiative to promote a more sustainable community.
The “Green Your Yard, Clean the Air!” video contest has officially premiered, and aims to spread awareness on simple and practical steps teens can take to help improve the air quality in town.
All entries are due on April 22 at 11:59 p.m., and winners will be announced at the Mayor’s Youth Council meeting on May 16, 2023. Submissions will contain a 1-3 minute video focusing on the problems of combustion-powered lawn equipment and highlighting eco-friendly alternatives. Three winners will be selected, and will receive a $200, $100, and $50 gift card respectively. The contest is open to West Hartford residents in grades 6-12, but applicants are permitted to feature other children and adults in their work.
This contest will allow students to delve into their interests in environmentalism and film production. A successful entry consists of insightful, thought-provoking, and informative content, paired with personality and creative integrity. Submissions should also have a clear message with the intent of persuading viewers to choose environmentally-effective alternatives to gas-powered lawn machines.
Video entries may be uploaded to a Google form located on the West Hartford Public Library website (https://www.
