Friday night’s match-up at Northwest Catholic quickly turned into a one-sided showcase as the Lions cruised to a 53-point victory, defeating the Conard Red Wolves 73-20.

Northwest Catholic set the tone for the game early on by winning the jump and getting a quick assist to Tyler Uveges, who scored the first points of the game.

Northwest continued to rack up points until Shane Morris hit a 3-pointer, getting Conard on the scoreboard. The first quarter ended with the score 23-13, with the Lions leading.

During the second quarter, Northwest Catholic looked to extend their lead, which they did successfully. Conard struggled to score during the second quarter, although shortly after getting subbed in Ryan Peabody hit a 3-pointer in an effort to lessen Conard’s point deficit. NWC racked up 20 points in the second quarter, putting the score at 43-16 going into the second half of the game.

Throughout the third quarter, the Lions continued to dominate the game. With a team effort, NWC pushed its score to 59, while Conard remained scoreless during the third quarter, with 16 points still on the board.

By the fourth quarter, NWC looked to grow its lead as much as possible, while Conard focused on their defensive efforts. Freshman Dahriyus Clark from NWC was put in for just the second half and made his mark on the game during the fourth quarter after nailing two 3-pointers almost back-to-back.

Conard managed to improve their score by four points during the fourth quarter, though their efforts did not affect the outcome of the game.

Northwest Catholic secured their victory with the final score being 73-20.

Next up, Conard (5-8) will host Cromwell on Monday and travel to Bristol Central on Tuesday. Northwest Catholic (9-2) will travel to face Simsbury on Monday.
