Northwest Catholic Lions faced off against the Simsbury Trojans on Friday Sept. 12.

Simsbury started off the first half strong with a scrappy goal.

A few minutes later, Northwest Catholic’s Captain Maeve Staunton made a drive to the Simsbury goal and drew a penalty kick, finishing it to tie the game at 1-1.

It was a busy afternoon in net for Northwest Catholic’s keeper Abby Casper and a strong performance from center back defensive duo Captains Ashlyn Sklenka and Maisie Boucher holding off the constant pressure from Simsbury forwards.

With just over two and a half minutes left in the game, Maeve Staunton received the ball from Lily Johnson at half field, took a few dribbles past defenders towards the Simsbury goal and took a hard shot from 35 yards out, scoring the go ahead goal to seal the 2-1 win.

Northwest, now 4-0,  travels to Lewis Mills on Monday night (9/15 6pm at Lewis Mills) for a class M state finals rematch.
