West Hartford’s Northwest Catholic High School girls basketball team defeated Rocky Hill 72-34 to win the CCC Championship on Monday, March 2, at the University of Hartford.

The top-seeded Northwest Catholic girls basketball team, winner of the past three state championships in their division, earned the CCC championship – the first time for their trio of star seniors Maeve Staunton, Abby Casper, and Zoey Canning – with a resounding 72-34 victory over second seed Rocky Hill on Monday night.
The Lions, now in Division I after a realignment of CIAC brackets, will look to defend their state title beginning next week. All 16 Division I teams play in the state tournament and have a bye in the first round, and Northwest Catholic, the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament with a 19-1 regular season record, losing only to Springfield Central High School (Massachusetts) in on Jan. 16, will host No. 16 Conard (4-16) on Monday, March 9, at 6 p.m.
