Around 27,500 people showed up in Cooperstown, NY, last Sunday to welcome the latest Baseball Hall of Fame inductees: former MLB Commissioner Alan H. “Bud” Selig, long-time executive for the Kansas City Royals and the Atlanta Braves John Schuerholz, All-Star outfielder Tim “Rock” Raines, All-Star catcher Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez, and All-Star first baseman Jeff Bagwell, a former student at the University of Hartford in West Hartford.
Also honored were Claire Smith of ESPN, who received the J. G. Taylor Spink Award, Rachel Robinson, who received the Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award, and Bill King, who was honored posthumously with the Ford C. Frick Award.
