After 26 years of teaching – 24 of which were at West Hartford’s Wolcott Elementary School – Donna Gosk has retired.
The beloved teacher was honored at Wolcott’s Town Meeting on Thursday with a presentation that included special songs performed by the students and teacher Jennifer Stanish.
“This has been so much fun for me,” Gosk told the Wolcott community. She said she feels very lucky to have taught in such a wonderful place, with a fantastic staff.
While driving to work each day, Gosk said she would think to herself, “I’m the luckiest duck on the plant because I get to spend my day with beautiful children, caring teachers, and happiness.”
Fifth grade teacher Matt Dicks, who hosted Town Meeting, asked her about her plans for retirement. Drinking coffee at home rather than in the car, golf, and visiting family and friends were tops on the list.

Sorry to post something negative, but I was a student of hers and remember way more cruel things she did than pleasant. She would show everyones individual school pictures to the entire class and poke fun at them. For individual writing prompts, she would read them aloud to the class and have students guess which belonged to which student based on her negative or positive evaluations of them. Whenever it was a negative review, all students would guess me and one other kid who had poor creative writing skills and got bad grades. Mrs. Gosk is responsible for many of my adulthood insecurities which took a lot of time to recover from.
