Road construction season in West Hartford began in May, the second round of roadway resurfacing began in July, and the third and final phase of road resurfacing is set to begin the week of Sept. 15, according to the Engineering Division.

“Traffic control will be managed by a combination of police officers and flaggers,” the town advised.” The Department of Public Works will oversee detours and signage. Plans for detours and signage will be shared by the Engineering Office shortly. Please note that school buses will be allowed through active work zones, although brief delays may occur due to construction activity.”

The following roadways are scheduled to be re-paved in the final round, with milling by contractor Black & Boucher beginning the week of Sept. 15, in this order:

  • Glenwood Road and Manor Lane
  • Glendale Road and Spruce Lane
  • Meadow Lane and Belmont Road
  • Walden Street
  • Milton Street (from Trout Brook Drive to Ardmore) and Arnold Way
  • South Quaker Lane (from I-84 to Flatbush Avenue)

Paving, which will be done by Galasso Materials, will follow according to the following schedule provided by the town:

  • Glenwood Road and Manor Lane
  • Glendale Road and Spruce Lane
  • Meadow Lane and Belmont Road

West Hartford has 217 miles of roadways maintained by the town, and on average 8.5 miles are repaved each year, with some of those roadways being fully reconstructed. Based on annual assessment by the Engineering Division, road conditions are rated from “excellent” to “extremely poor” and those in the latter category are prioritized for repaving, with the schedule also impacted and coordinated with infrastructure work scheduled by utility companies. According to the town, in 2024 there were 17 miles of roadway rated as “extremely poor,” and those are the focus of the repaving. There were also 34 miles of roadway rated as “poor” in a 2024 assessment.

Just over nine miles of roadway was resurfaced in 2024, according to the Engineering Division.

The town’s Engineering Division has advised that the following roadways have been re-paved this year:

  • Arnoldale Road (Boulevard to Park Road)
  • Asylum Avenue (North Main Street to Fox Chase Lane/cul-de-sac)
  • Asylum Avenue (Trout Brook Drive to Steele Road)
