At the end of March the Sedgwick Drama Club will be performing “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” – a play full of love and magic!
The story of “Beauty and the Beast” follows a girl named Belle, a bright young woman who is trying to navigate her way through the high expectations of eighteenth century France. The “man” of the town wants to marry Belle, but she couldn’t care less because her father and books hold her love. After a mishap in the woods, Belle’s father Maurice ends up in an enchanted castle with a horrible beast. The Beast gives Belle an ultimatum to hold her father captive forever or to take his place and live in his castle for the rest of her life. Belle makes the selfless decision to save her father’s life and seals her fate.
The message “Beauty and the Beast” tries to convey that beauty is found within and that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
The cast of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” consists of over 80 talented and hard-working students. Throughout the months leading up to the musical the students have dedicated themselves to hours of memorizing lines, learning challenging dances, and practicing songs.
To conclude, the cast has been through many challenges and obstacles, such as the several snow days and earlier show times due to the position of spring break. This could’ve easily faltered the show’s quality, but yet we have still persevered, and we have worked so hard for many long and tiring hours to make sure that this production of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” is the best that it can possibly be!
Performances are on March 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. and on March 29 at 1 p.m. (There is also a special preview performance on March 26 at 6 p.m. Tickets are discounted for this full length performance.)
Tickets are on sale at: https://sedgwickdrama.ludus.com. We hope to see you at the show!
