[Updated] West Hartford Police are investigating a single car crash that happened on Bloomfield Avenue Thursday evening.

West Hartford Police have confirmed that one person has died as a result of a single car crash on Bloomfield Avenue at the intersection with Abrahms Boulevard right in front of the Mandell JCC.

Police and fire officials are still on the scene but have not identified the victim. According to Capt. Jeff Rose, the victim was male but no other details were available.

Police said the driver was headed northbound on Bloomfield Avenue when the crash occurred.

The car hit a tree and according to a witness it caught fire.

The crash happened shortly before 8 p.m.

The West Hartford Fire Department will extricate the victim from the car and the road will remain closed for several more hours while the accident reconstruction team investigates.
