West Hartford celebrated Pride Month by hosting their fifth annual Pride Festival on June 22, 2024, outside the Town Hall.

Despite the heatwave and unpredictable thunderstorms, Pride West Hartford celebrated Pride Month by hosting a festival outside the town hall on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The event was filled with vendors, musical bands and drag artist performances.

While the event was cut short due to torrential rain and a tornado warning –  with the emergency plan that was discussed in advance. put into effect and vendors, performers, and attendees taking shelter in Town Hall as well as the Memorial Garage – everyone was safe and the Pride Festival still had a fantastic turnout filled with celebratory spirit.

Before the festival began, drummers led those who attended the Pride rally from the steps of the Town Hall auditorium to kick off the festival with featured speakers, Miss Connecticut USA Shavana Clarke and Theo Keitt. Shortly after the speeches were finished, the stage was ready to be tackled by 18 drag artists, The Kentucky Gentlemen, and Taiana Asili. Other performances were featured by NE Pride 247-365, the Connecticut Gay Men’s Chorus, Sister Funk, and headliner MkX. 

There were tons of activities and vendors for attendees to enjoy during the family-friendly event. Guests were able to try different meals and purchase flags, pins, hats, art, and jewelry. Or they could have the chance for some free items. For families, there was a family tent that provided many activities for young ones.

Although the weather deterred the continuation of the event, with the difficult decision made just after 4 p.m. Saturday, the festival still encapsulated what pride is and what is celebrated during Pride Month. Until next year!
