For parents looking for innovative ways to challenge, educate and entertain their children are in luck: West Hartford Leisure Services has just announced a new summer camp called “Summer Brainstorm,” which is geared for kids ages 8 through 13.
Summer Brainstorm brings education and recreation together in an exciting environment of fun-based learning sure to get children’s brains working in new and creative ways. The camp is conducted by highly-qualified instructors is skilled in unique fields, and has developed age appropriate, exploratory courses for the enjoyment and enrichment of all who attend. The camp will be held at Wolcott Elementary School from July 13 through July 17.
Programs include Science, with “sci-terrific” experiments and explorations; an aerodynamics program that will have kids building all kinds of flying devises with the help of Newton’s laws; and a Japanese lantern building program that includes woodworking, wiring and traditional Japanese components.
There also are two musical programs running: a school of rock and summer songwriting. And for the Jane or James Bond types, a spy games program. A Parisian-themed program and a forest exploration program round out the series.
Participating children can select two programs from the menu and attend those two programs all week, in age groupings of 8-10 and 11-13.
According to Marc Blanchard, Leisure Services Manager, “Summer Brainstorm represents a wonderful collaboration between West Hartford Leisure Services and educators from the community. Our goal for the program is expressed through the tagline, “Summer Just Got Smarter,” and with the caliber of the offerings we have, we believe that tagline will become a reality.”
Summer Brainstorm brochures were sent home with every elementary and middle school child in the West Hartford school system. Brochures also are available in the Town Hall lobby, or on-line at www.WestHartfordCT.gov/leisureservices.
