A vehicle pulling out of a condominium complex was struck by a vehicle headed westbound on New Britain Avenue Tuesday morning, and both drivers were taken to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment of their injuries, West Hartford Police Capt. Jeff Rose said.

According to Rose, Beatrice Mavumkal, 74, of West Hartford, driving a 2010 Honda CR-V, pulled out of Kingsley Court at 8:20 a.m. into the path of a 2011 GMC Acadia being driven westbound on New Britain Avenue by Maria Ocasio, 28, of New Britain.

Ocasio’s Acadia broadsided Mavumkal’s CR-V, and Mavumkal’s car also hit the metal fence surrounding the condominium complex, Rose said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, but both drivers complained of pain. Mavumkal was transported to St. Francis Hospital and Ocasio was taken to UConn Health Center. Rose said neither appeared to have serious injuries.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged as a result of the collision.

Rose said that Mavumkal was issued an infraction as a result of the incident.
