The volunteer-run thrift boutiques provide more than $750,000 to support vital services.

Fueled by the hard work of volunteers and the support of shoppers, The Village for Families & Children’s four Second Chance Shops raised more than $750,000 in the last fiscal year, which ended June 30 – a record-breaking contribution that will make a significant difference for families across Greater Hartford.

The Second Chance Shops – located in Glastonbury, Simsbury, Suffield, and West Hartford – are run and managed entirely by volunteers and support The Village by selling new and gently used clothing, accessories, housewares, antiques, and other donated items. All proceeds help children, adults and families overcome challenges and heal through The Village’s broad range of behavioral health services, basic needs and family support, financial coaching and more.

Their donation to The Village this year marks the Second Chance Shops’ largest combined donation in their 70 years in operation.

“Our Second Chance Shop volunteers truly embody what it means to serve others,” said Village President & CEO Hector Glynn. “Their dedication, along with the support of their patrons, plays a vital role in helping thousands of families across Greater Hartford each year. We are so deeply grateful for our volunteers’ longstanding commitment to helping those in need.”

In addition to supporting The Village, The Shops are instrumental in providing an outlet to give new and gently used clothing a second life and provide affordable, high-quality clothing options in the communities they serve. The Second Chance Shops have raised nearly $10 million to support The Village since their inception.

The Second Chance Shops each presented their grand total raised in the last year to Village President & CEO Hector Glynn this summer.
