We know you like to be in the know about what’s happening with West Hartford’s businesses, so we will get right to the buzz.
But don’t forget that this column needs your input, too! If you have tips about businesses opening or closing, or doing something worth sharing, please provide that information in the comments or email Ronni Newton at [email protected].
- Tribe is coming to West Hartford. We don’t mean the Conard High School student fan club which already makes its presence very well known at sporting events. This Tribe will be an indoor cycling studio, owned by two local women, that will soon open on Farmington Avenue between S.K Lavery and the extra storefront that Fleet Feet Sports has recently taken over as expansion space. (More on the plans for that in a future buzz.) Tribe states on its website: “We are building something Connecticut has never seen before. Tribe will offer killer, but fun, indoor cycling classes and plans to expand to include muscle and core conditioning.
- The rumors are flying about what is moving into some of the newly-vacated spots in Blue Back Square. There’s a thread on Facebook with all sorts of ideas (Goldberg’s Bagels, pizza, West Elm). We contacted Blue Back Square’s Leasing and Marketing Representative Debbie Davis for any confirmation she could provide. “We will be prepared to announce shortly,” she said regarding new tenants for some of the vacant spaces. “It’s a very exciting time, but I can’t confirm or deny,” Davis said. We asked the counter employee at Goldberg’s about a potential new store in Blue Back, and he also would neither confirm nor deny.
- We’re sorry to say that we did miss one new opening in Blue Back Square. Eyeglass.com opened about a month ago in the space between Muse Paintbar and GNC. It’s just the second retail store for what was formerly an online-only outlet for high quality designer eyeglasses that has a patented “Virtual Try On Application.” The other retail store is in Westport, CT.
- Sugarbeads on South Main Street is closing. The owner already has another store in Ridgefield, and will consolidate inventory in that spot and close the West Hartford store on Oct. 25.
- Business news that should be worth at least two bullet points is the return of West Hartford Center Kidscard. Cards are on sale now for $50, and the program begins Oct. 23. That $50 goes directly to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and what you get for it is a 20 percent discount at the majority of stores and restaurants in West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square.
