June is dog licensing month!

Due to the current pandemic, registration(s) and renewal(s) will only be accepted by mail. No walk-in registrations will be allowed.

If your dog is 6 months or older, state law requires that you obtain a license in the town where you reside. When you apply for your license, you must include the rabies vaccination certificate issued by your veterinarian.

If your dog is registered with the Town of West Hartford, please click here for the rabies expiration date that we have on file. The metal tag is not an acceptable proof of vaccination. The certificate will usually indicate whether the dog has been spayed or neutered, but if not, you’ll need to present a separate certificate issued by your veterinarian.

Current fees are $8.00 for spayed and neutered dogs, and $19.00 for others.

To renew or apply for a new dog license, please submit the Dog License Form along with payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope via mail. Please remember to include current rabies vaccination paperwork and if applicable documentation stating dog has been spayed or neutered. We will return the license and tag promptly.

Per town ordinance, only three dogs are allowed per household. You may reach the Town Clerk’s office at 860-561-7430 with any questions.
