A bus full of middle school students that was stopped to let passengers off was hit from behind by a Jeep Grand Cherokee Wednesday afternoon, police said.

West Hartford Police Capt. Jeff Rose, who heads the Traffic Division, said that the Jeep was being driven by Lauren McAdam, 31, of West Hartford.

McAdam was following the bus as it turned east from South Main Street onto Boulevard, police said, but when the bus stopped to let passengers off, the car slammed into it.

According to Rose, there were about 40 students from Bristow Middle School on the bus at the time of the crash.

“Thankfully there were no injuries,” Rose said.

McAdam, whose vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, was issued a ticket for following too closely.
