The West Hartford Fire Department is proud to announce that Fire Inspector Marsha McCurdy Adell has earned the distinction of Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist.

Issued by the Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control, this nationally-recognized certificate prepares her to continue the implementation of strategies to combat the misuse of fire and fire setting devices by juveniles.

Adell has been with the West Hartford Fire Department for over 20 years and was promoted from firefighter to fire inspector in February of this year.

Fire Marshal Michael Sinsigalli is looking forward to Adell’s contribution of her experience and professionalism in the fire service. “Inspector Adell’s experience and ability to connect to the community throughout her career has been valuable. And because fire setting behavior can be displayed in any demographic, having more diversity in the Office of the Fire Marshal allows us to make an even greater impact throughout West Hartford,” he said.

If Inspector Adell looks familiar, it’s because she’s also written and recorded a number of fire prevention public service announcements and public education videos being shown on West Harford’s community access Channel 5 and on YouTube. You can access them by navigating to www.westhartfordct.gov/firemarshal.

The West Hartford Fire Department can assist in the mitigation of youth fire setting through screening and education through their Youth Fire Setter Prevention program. To draw on all resources, they work with other agencies to be effective in its endeavor to reduce community risk through fire prevention. If you or someone you know may need help with a juvenile fire setter and/or fire prevention education, please contact the office directly at 860-561-8320.
