Smoke and flames were visible from I-84, but West Hartford firefighters were able to limit damage from a blaze Saturday morning to a detached garage, adjacent fence, and the exterior of a neighbor’s house, Assistant Chief Jay Silver said.
According to Silver, the fire was reported at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, units were notified of a fire outside a home on Taylor Road, which is located off South Quaker Lane. When units arrived at 10:59 a.m., they discovered a fully-involved fire in a single-car detached garage located behind the home.
An adjacent fence was also on fire, Silver said, and the blaze had extended to the exterior of a neighboring home.
Hose lines were immediately deployed to protect all exposed property, and the fire was quickly extinguished, Silver said. While the garage appeared to have been destroyed, further damage was limited.
According to Silver, a minor injury was sustained by one of the homeowners, but that individual refused medical treatment.
The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
“West Hartford Fire greatly appreciates the assistance of the West Hartford Police Department, American Medical Response, and our mutual aid partners,” Silver said in an email.
