A small fire in the wall surrounding a fireplace was quickly extinguished by West Hartford firefighters, Deputy Chief Neal Sinatro said in an email.

The fire, in a single-family home on Rillbank Terrace, was reported to West Hartford’s Public Safety dispatchers at 11:16 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, and units, as well as West Hartford Police, responded immediately.

There was a “light smoke condition” evident on the first floor when units arrived, and crews located the source as an active fire in the wall surrounding a fireplace on the first floor, according to Sinatro’s email.

All residents had safely evacuated, and crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, declaring it under control by 11:43 p.m., according to Sinatro. There were no injuries reported.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office, but an official from the town’s Building Office deemed the residence safe for occupancy by the residents.

While West Hartford units were committed to the scene, the Hartford Fire Department provided coverage for the town under mutual aid. The West Hartford Fire Department expressed is thankful for their assistance, as well as the support provided by dispatchers, West Hartford Police, and AMR.
