The West Hartford Fire Department said a fire in a single-family home on Fenwood Road was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.
In an email, Deputy Chief Jarrad Smith said the structure fire was reported at approximately 3 a.m. Friday morning.
When crews arrived, they observed smoke coming from the rear of a the one-story, single-family home, Smith said. An active fire was discovered in the basement, and firefighters immediately “initiated an interior fire attack while performing a primary search of the residence,” he said.
All of the occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire units, and there were no injuries to civilians or to responders.
According to Smith, the fire was knocked down within minutes, and officially declared under control at 3:19 a.m.
Although the blaze was contained to the basement and did not extend to the main floor, the rest of the home sustained smoke damage, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
