The snow has melted, the calendar says it’s spring, and the West Hartford Director of Leisure Services & Social Services Helen Rubino-Turco has announced that the town’s golf courses will open for the season.
Rockledge Golf Course will open on Wednesday, March 25, and the 9-hold Buena Vista course will open the next day, Thursday, March 26. Rubino-Turco said the openings are “weather permitting,” but although the courses will still be a big soggy, the temperatures are expected to be in the 50s on Wednesday and mid-60s on Thursday, and rain is unlikely.
The walking trails at Rockledge were closed as of Monday, to allow staff to complete intensive preparation of the course for the spring season.

The bridge at the 8th hole on the Rockledge course was closed to the public after the fall season, and will be replaced this spring, according to Rubino-Turco. The work is expected to be completed sometime in May, but although the bridge cannot be used, the opening of the course to golfers is not impacted.
The Rockledge driving range has been under construction throughout the winter, but is “not quite ready,” Rubino-Turco said. “The two snow storms and intense low temperatures set us back a bit. The metal roof will be re-sealed in early April, followed by the completion of the north end of the building, where the restrooms and ball dispensing machine will be. Earthwork is in the process of completion,” she said. “The final steps are for the utilities to be turned on and for the TrackMan system to be installed.”

Tee times can be reserved online here and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Because the weather can be unpredictable, hours may be adjusted but are currently planned to be 8 a.m. until dusk. The practice greens and Golf Shop will also reopen for regular seasonal hours. Season passes and discount passes are available for sale.
More information about Rockledge Golf Club and Buena Vista Golf Course can be found on the website.
Any questions can be directed to the Golf Shop, at 860-561-8280.
The opening of the golf course means that for safety reasons the trails on the Rockledge Golf Course that the public uses for walking and running during the off-season – as well as cross country skiing and snowshoeing when there is snow – are closed for the season.
