In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 Community Funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes the town of West Hartford.
The purpose of the Community Funds is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs in their towns and encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement. West Hartford residents play the lead role in deciding how the Community Fund will be used through an Advisory Committee comprised of all volunteers. Since 2021, The West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund (WHGTCF) has granted funding totaling $96,000 to organizations working to serve West Hartford and its residents.
The WHGTCF is looking for new members for the all-volunteer Advisory Committee that is inclusive, representative, and reflective of all of the residents of West Hartford. The recruitment period kicked off on Sept. 19 at an informal community event at GastroPark celebrating past grant recipients and welcoming prospective committee members.
Committee membership is open to West Hartford residents age 15 and older, other than those who currently hold elected office or running for elective office. Ideal candidates will be passionate about supporting the West Hartford Community, enjoy collaborating with a diverse cohort of fellow volunteers, and think critically with an open mind.
This Advisory Committee is responsible for:
-
- Deciding on the Committee’s operating procedures,
- Receiving and evaluating applications to the fund, and
- Making fund distribution decisions in this and coming years.
To apply and to learn more, individuals can view and complete the 2023 Application. Applications will be reviewed through mid-October. Questions regarding the application process can be sent to [email protected].
