Conard vs. Hall. Hall vs. Conard. Either way you phrase it, the competition is almost always exciting with the friendly yet competitive spirit shining through in the crosstown rivalry between athletes who grew up playing youth sports together.

This past week included rematch games between West Hartford’s two high schools in girls and boys soccer and volleyball. The girls swimming and diving competed against each other and field hockey met Wednesday night.

The Conard and Hall girls soccer teams played under the lights at Hall on Thursday, Oct. 23. It was senior night for the Warriors who beat the Chieftains 2-0. Hall also won the previous contest between the schools, 3-2 on Sept. 29. The Hall girls finished the regular season with a 9-3-4 record, earning a spot as one of the two CCC West teams in the CCC tournament. They lost to Glastonbury 1-3 on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The rematch between the boys soccer teams had a very different result than the first game. Conard hosted Hall under the lights on Thursday, Oct. 23, and on senior night for the Chieftains it was a 4-1 Conard victory. In the first game, on Sept. 30, Hall beat Conard 4-2.

On Friday, Oct. 24, Conard hosted Hall in girls volleyball, and the Chieftains won 3-2. The previous meeting between the teams on Sept. 29 was a 3-0 Hall victory.

On Wednesday, Oct. 29 , Conard and Hall met at Robinson Stadium for field hockey under the lights. Hall principal Dan Zittoun tweeted a photo of a senior night cake the teams shared, representing “great sportsmanship between two great teams.” Conard won 1-0 in overtime.

Tournament pairings for girls and boys soccer, volleyball, and field hockey will be released on Friday, Oct. 31.

In girls swimming and diving, Conard extended its record to 10-1 with a 97-87 victory over Hall on Monday, Oct. 27. According to the Hartford Courant, it was Conard’s “first win against Hall in half a decade.” Information about post season qualifiers will be released on Nov. 4.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, Conard and Hall boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Class LL championships at Wickham Park. Major congratulations go to Hall’s Ari Klau, who took first place in 15:48. The Hall boys team took 4th place, with Grant O’Connor, Benjamin Gross, Devon Aldave, and Jonathan Kaback scoring for the Warriors.
