West Hartford Holiday Stroll a Festive Welcome to the Season

Thousands of people visited West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square on Thursday, Dec. 4 during the 38th annual Holiday Stroll.

Wintery weather arrived for the season just in time for West Hartford’s 38th annual Holiday Stroll, and although Jack Frost was nipping at noses a bit too fiercely for some, the chill did not deter a large crowd from bundling up and enjoying the annual New England-style festival on Thursday night in Blue Back Square and the Center.
With snow flurries setting the mood, there were truly chestnuts roasting over an open fire (courtesy of Treva), along with hot cocoa, crepes, and other heart-warming treats being handed out by local businesses to keep people warm as they enjoyed the magical winter spirit of the evening. There were Victorian carolers, dancers, and live musical performances on three stages.
Ballerinas from Fisher Ballet provided an excerpt from “The Nutcracker” as a prelude to the appearance of Santa, who along with Mrs. Claus and some elves arrived in Blue Back Square just after 5 p.m. in a shiny red convertible. After a greeting from emcee Adam Rivers of Kiss 95.7, Santa waved his magic snowflake wand to light the tree in the courtyard before visiting with wide-eyed children.
“Another” Santa was transported to Relax the Back by the West Hartford Fire Department where he posed for photos and heard Christmas wishes. There were a few other indoor activities, including a petting zoo with animals from The Children’s Museum inside Kaoud Rugs, caricature artists inside Charles Schwab, and opportunities to pose for photos inside Iris Photography.
The West Hartford Police Department was collecting toys and donations for those in need, and while its physical location is not yet ready to open, West Hartford’s new toy business, The Toy Shop, had a presence on the sidewalk in front of the future store.
First Church West Hartford once again held the Festival of Trees, raising money for charity. The Festival of Trees will also be open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Holiday cheer could be found from one end of West Hartford Center to the other and throughout Blue Back Square as the local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce hosted the free – and very successful – annual event as a thank you to the community.
