A 19-year-old man was transported to the hospital Tuesday morning after running a red light and crashing into a car on Trout Brook Drive at the intersection with Memorial Road in West Hartford.
According to West Hartford Police, Maleek Masood, 19, of West Hartford, was driving a 1992 Kawasaki north on Trout Brook Drive when he struck a 2012 Honda Accord that was exiting the Kingswood Oxford School driveway.
The incident occurred at 9:25 a.m.
The Accord was being driven by Benjamin Steele, 18. Police said that Steele had a green light and the light on Trout Brook Drive was solid red at the time of the crash.
Masood, who was wearing a helmet and eye protection, sustained facial and head injuries. He was treated at the scene and transported to Hartford Hospital. His injuries are not considered serious, police said. “They were mostly cuts. He’s very lucky,” Capt. Jeff Rose said.
Neither Steele nor his passenger, Manavia Katechia, 18, were injured.
The motorcycle was destroyed, and the Accord sustained heavy damage to the left side, police said.
Masood was issued an infraction for a red light violation, police said.
