Tom Caraher was moved by the divisiveness that has marked social media interactions to make a statement about kindness.

Caraher, who serves as the president of the Board of Directors of the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra, created that statement musically, by writing a song.

“Be Kind” was “written to help offset the cruel tone that so many are seeing on social media,” Caraher said.

WHSO principal violinist and owner of the New Old School of Music, Mirela Panaitisor, is featured in the performance, along with other local musicians. The recording was produced virtually, and some of the musicians have never met face-to-face, Caraher said.

“Be Kind,” which can be viewed and heard below, debuted on YouTube on Friday, Nov. 13, to celebrate World Kindness Day.
