University of Hartford head men’s basketball coach John Gallagher has joined forces with Chief of Police Tracey Gove and West Hartford Community Partnerships Manager Suzanne Oslander to extend multiple opportunities for some of the most gifted and driven boys of the Hillcrest neighborhood of West Hartford to attend the “On The Floor” Basketball Camp tuition-free this summer.
“Having the chance to link up with Chief Gove and Partnerships Manager Oslander to help serve the youth of West Hartford is both humbling and gratifying,” remarked Gallagher. The talented boys of Hillcrest will add much to our camp setting.”
This partnership centers around promoting local businesses and organizations that would sponsor talented and hardworking boys so that they can attend one of the premier basketball camps in the region.
“We are excited to participate in this collaborative initiative which provides camp scholarships to youth in the Hillcrest neighborhood,” explained Oslander. “This engaging program fosters team building, self-confidence and leadership – a winning combination.”
The “On the Floor” Basketball Camp will be held for boys at the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion from June 22-26, the very same arena where the Hartford Hawks practice and compete in Division I and America East Conference action. Fundamentals, daily improvement, unselfish team play, and individual enthusiasm will be the focuses of this all-star week. In addition, swimming, special guest speakers, prizes, contests, and giveaways will highlight the week!
“We are thrilled to work with Coach Gallagher and his talented staff and team at the University of Hartford,” Chief Gove commented. He continued, “This partnership will directly benefit our most valuable citizens – the youth in our community.”
